A few months ago, Avengers mainstay Jeremy Renner expressed frustration that Hawkeye Season 2 hadn’t been confirmed, citing an offer of “half” the salary he received for the first season. However, Renner has since softened his stance and recently hinted that a second season may still be in the works after all.
“I’m always happy to be in that world, man. I love all those guys, I love the character,” Renner told Empire. “I’m sure we’ll end up doing season 2 [of Hawkeye], and do other things. And I’m happy to do it. My body’s getting ready for something like that. I don’t know if anybody wants to see me in tights, but my body will look good in the tights.”
Renner’s Hawkeye has appeared in multiple MCU films, starting with a cameo in Thor (2011), and a central role in The Avengers series and Captain America: Civil War. In 2021, he starred in the Disney+ series Hawkeye, which explored Barton’s life post-Avengers: Endgame, introduced Kate Bishop (played by Hailee Steinfeld), and leaned more into his grounded, street-level hero role.
In early 2023, Renner survived a near-fatal snowplow accident and has been gradually recovering since. His slow return to public appearances and work has been closely followed by fans. Renner’s frustration over being offered “half” the salary for Hawkeye Season 2 appeared tied, at least in part, to his injury—something he likely found insulting at the time.
“They asked me to do Season 2, and they offered me half the money. I’m like, ‘Well, it’s going to take me twice the amount of work for half the amount of money, and eight months of my time, essentially, to do it for half the amount,’” he told High Performance in a recent interview.
That said, Renner’s comments about his “body getting ready for something like that” and his confidence that “we’ll end up doing Season 2 of Hawkeye” are encouraging signs that fans can expect more of Hawkeye and his protégé, Kate Bishop.
