Silver Surfer special rumored to be in development for Disney+

The Fantastic Four is set to premiere in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in their own film in February 2025, but before we get to see Marvel’s First Family grace the silver screen under the Marvel Studios banner it’s rumored that a cosmic character who’s integral to the Fantastic Four’s narrative, the Silver Surfer, will be making his debut on Disney+ first.

According to The Cosmic Circus, the Silver Surfer reboot will be in the vein of the recent Werewolf by Night Special Presentation on Disney+, being a unique, one shot offering that will be roughly an hour in runtime. The Silver Surfer special will reportedly release sometime in the months before February 2025’s Fantastic Four film hits theaters. Although the story premise for the Silver Surfer Disney+ special is still unknown as of this writing, it’s rumored that the cosmic herald will have limited interaction with any other MCU characters and will take “Netflix’s The Sandman as inspiration, with a cosmic twist.

MCU President Kevin Feige previously told The Hollywood Reporter that when the Fantastic Four is introduced in the MCU, that the movie will “not be a traditional origin story movie.” Feige added, “A lot of people know this origin story. A lot of people know the basics. How do we take that and bring something that they’ve never seen before?”

Does that fact that the Fantastic Four film won’t be a traditional origin story, with an already established team, and the timing surrounding the Silver Surfer solo special on Disney+ indicate that Fantastic Four director Matt Shakman will be working the Sentinel of the Spaceways into the F4 film in some way, shape or form? And Silver Surfer’s presence alongside the Fantastic Four portend that the Devourer of Worlds, Galactus himself, is not far behind in making his MCU debut? Tell us what you think in the comments.
