Something stirs in the mines: Geralt hunts a horned beast in The Witcher: Blood Stone

It’s an interesting and thrilling time to be a Witcher fan. Big changes and bold new stories are on the horizon across games, TV, and comics. Ciri will take center stage as the main protagonist in the next Witcher game, a shift that could significantly shake up gameplay dynamics. On the streaming front, The Witcher Season 4 is set to premiere October 30th, with Liam Hemsworth stepping into Geralt’s boots. And for those who can’t get enough of the Continent, Dark Horse Comics is diving back in with a brand-new series, The Witcher: Blood Stone, promising even more monster-slaying adventures with our favorite White Wolf.

The Witcher: Blood Stone, a collaboration between CD Projekt Red and Dark Horse Comics sees Geralt drawn to an ancient dwarven mine which has begun drawing the attention of treasure hunters in droves — many of whom are vanishing without a trace. Local folklore tells of a horned beast behind the attacks, but there’s one troubling detail: no evidence of any attack has been found. With few other leads, Geralt sets out to investigate. But the mines are as perilous as they are mysterious, and as he delves deeper, he soon learns that some things buried in the dark are best left untouched.

The Witcher: Blood Stone is penned by Daniel Freedman, known for the dark fantasy series Birdking and the post-apocalyptic saga Kali. The artwork is handled by Pius Bak, whose previous credits include the whimsical fantasy Slightly Exaggerated and the supernatural crime series Godfather of Hell. Joining them are colorist Roman Titov (Cyberpunk 2077: Big City Dreams) and letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, who also worked on The Witcher: The Bear and the Butterfly.

“I am thrilled to leave my mark on the legendary long-running fantasy The Witcher,” Freedman said in a statement. “Geralt and I share a lot of the same sensibilities and getting to weave a blood soaked tale about the true monster of man is always an opportunity I relish.”

“Daniel Freedman has written one of the best dark fantasy comic books ever, Birdking,” CD Projekt Red’s editor/writer and franchise creative director Marcin Zwierzchowski added. “So inviting him to tell his own story in the world of The Witcher felt like a perfect match. Together with Pius Bak and Roman Titov they formed a dream team that crafted a wonderful story about greed and wounds that do not heal.”

With a seasoned creative team and a dark new mystery set deep within the world of The Witcher, Blood Stone is shaping up to be a must-read for fans of the franchise and fantasy comics alike. The series kicks off on January 28th, 2026.
