Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in ‘Deadpool 3’ will be ‘something completely new’ from the ‘X-Men’ films, says Ryan Reynolds

By now it’s a well-known fact that Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine will be returning for Deadpool 3, and Jackman has stated in past interviews that the Wolverine who appears in the upcoming film “won’t mess with the Logan timeline.

So what does that mean regarding Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in Deadpool 3? Will it be a completely new Wolverine from a different timeline or place in the multiverse that we haven’t yet seen before on the big screen? According to Ryan Reynolds, that could very well be a possibility.

“We’ve wanted to this this for decades…it’s weirdly the perfect time,” Reynolds told ET Canada about Jackman appearing as Wolverine in a Deadpool movie. “I never stopped [trying to get him to come back as Wolverine]. I was just pestering him like a gnat over the last many years. I believe in timing, as much as hard work and luck and all those intersections that are supposed to meet. Timing’s the big one. I think he was ready. I think he was excited.”

Reynolds added, “And what we pitched him was enough of a divergence from the character that he knows and the character that he’s left behind, that it gives him something completely new to play and something that he’s really excited to do.”

Reynolds also backed Jackman’s comments regarding the Wolverine in Deadpool 3 not disrupting the narrative of Logan, which was Jackman’s swan song for the character.

Logan takes place in 2029. Totally separate thing. Logan died in Logan. Not touching that,” Reynolds added.

Deadpool 3 is currently on schedule to start production in May 2023, with a tentative theater release date of November 8th, 2024 as of this writing.

What do you think will be done differently regarding Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in Deadpool 3? Will the character be more savage and unpredictable than we’ve seen him in previous X-Men movie installments to offset Deadpool’s voluble nature? Let us know in the comments.
