Willem Dafoe and Thomas Haden Church negotiating their return for Spider-Man 3

“You know, I’m something of a Spider-Man actor myself.”

Not to be outdone by Alfred Molina returning as Doctor Octopus in the upcoming Spider-Man 3, reports strongly indicate that Raimi trilogy actors Willem Dafoe, who played main antagonist Norman Osborn/Green Goblin in 2002’s Spider-Man and Thomas Haden Church, who played Sandman in 2007’s Spider-Man 3 are close to finalizing deals to appear in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel to Spider-Man: Far From Home, tentatively titled Spider-Man 3 (not to be confused with the aforementioned Raimi version of Spider-Man 3).

The news (first reported by The Illuminerdi) adds further fuel to the speculation that the MCU Spider-Man 3 will somehow integrate multiversal elements and characters from alternate Earths as we saw in Sony’s wildly popular Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. (Which makes us wonder: will there be a cameo from Miles Morales in Spider-Man 3 somehow?)

Green Goblin vs. Spider-Man

In the original Spider-Man film, Norman Osborn/Green Goblin is a powerful businessman (CEO and founder of Oscorp Industries) and the father of Peter Parker’s best friend who becomes Spider-Man’s arch-nemesis after taking an unstable dose of the Goblin serum. One of the main weapons in the Green Goblin’s arsenal is his Goblin Glider, a glider developed in a military contract with Oscorp. The glider is equipped with machine guns and rockets.

The Sandman is a villain, who as his name implies, has the ability to manipulate his sand-comprised body after having his molecular structure altered into sand as the result of a scientific, experimental accident.

Does the addition of Willem Dafoe and Thomas Haden Church in their respective Green Goblin and Sandman roles lend further credence to the speculation that the formation of the Sinister Six (alongside Molina’s Doctor Octopus, Jamie Foxx’s Electro, Michael Keaton’s Vulture and Michael Mando’s Scorpion) will take place in the MCU’s Spider-Man 3?

What do you think of the news that Willem Dafoe and Thomas Haden Church will be in Spider-Man 3, reprising their roles as Green Goblin and Sandman respectively? Let us know in the comments.
